Daviess Co. man charged with fleeing from police, wanton endangerment

A Daviess County man is facing several charges after he reportedly fled from state police over the weekend, reaching speeds in excess of 120 mph.

Kentucky State Police reports a trooper observed 22 year old Gregory Mayton, of Philpot, KY, traveling eastbound on US 60 at 84 mph in a 55 mph zone. After the trooper activated his emergency equipment, they say Mayton shut off his headlights and fled from the officer reaching speeds in excess of 120 mph on KY54. Once Mayton left the city limits of Philpot, police say he increased his speed to 140 mph. KSP indicates once the trooper began to catch up to Mayton’s vehicle, he gave up and stopped.

Mayton was arrested and lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center for first degree fleeing and evading police, first degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving, speeding over 26 mph and several traffic-related offenses.
