Student charged with bringing gun and bullets on school campus in Henderson

A student at a Henderson school has been charged after bringing a gun and bullets on campus.

Henderson Police responded to Central Academy around Noon Thursday when an administrator at the school received an anonymous tip after a student overheard another student say he had a gun in their locker. Police say the school administrator immediately searched the 14 year old student’s locker and found a loaded 22 caliber Derringer along with additional bullets. The student was then removed from class by the administrators and the school resource officer and transported to the Henderson Police Department where family was notified.

According to police, the student was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Gun on School Property, Possession of a Defaced Firearm and Possession of a Handgun by a Minor 1st Offense. The 14 year old was transported to the Juvenile Detention Facility in Bowling Green.

Authorities say the safety of all Henderson County students and staff is a priority for both the school system and the Henderson Police Department. Due to this being an open juvenile investigation, police indicate no further information will be released at this time.
