KSP: Subject That Shot Wife in Domestic Leads Police on Pursuit Ending in an Officer Involved Shooting

NEWS RELEASE

(Hiseville, KY) – The Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green was requested to investigate a shooting that involved a Barren County Sheriff’s Deputy that was in response to a suspect firing multiple shots from a firearm that resulted in the death of the suspect.

The preliminary investigation indicated that at approx. 7:34 pm tonight the Barren County Sheriff’s Department responded to 6958 Coral Hill Road in reference to a domestic where a female had been shot in the arm by her husband. The female was able to flee the residence to get to safety by flagging down a passing motorist on Coral Hill Road who then took her to a nearby residence to call 911.

The suspect had fled the scene prior to the Deputies arrival where an attempt to locate was then issued for a white Lincoln Town Car with a black male occupant that was to be considered armed and dangerous. At approx. 8:37 pm he was located at a cemetery on Coral Hill-Halfway Road and when contact was made with him he fled in his vehicle and led Deputies and a Trooper on a pursuit that ended back at the original residence on Coral Hill Road.

At this time the suspect fired a gun multiple times and in response Deputy Dean Crumbaugh returned fire with his firearm.

The suspect, John Williams (61) of Hiseville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Barren County Coroner’s Office and an autopsy is set to be performed on Monday at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.

The female gunshot victim was transported by the Barren-Metcalfe EMS to T. J. Samson Community Hospital where she was later transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
