Kentucky State Police Investigate Aircraft Accident in Spencer County

NEWS RELEASE

(Spencer County) – Kentucky State Police Post 12 Frankfort is investigating a single aircraft accident at a Spencer County private airport in Little Mount. On Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 658 p.m., first responders arrived on scene to find the aircraft a single engine Piper Arrow, engulfed in flame. The pilot, 60-year-old, Stan Thompson of Taylorsville, was able to escape the burning wreckage and was transported to University Hospital in Louisville with moderate injuries and burns. The preliminary investigation indicates that the pilot experienced engine problems at the onset of his take off run and exited off the edge of the runway into a wooded area. The aircraft impacted with trees, overturned and caught fire. The FAA has been notified of the accident and an Inspector from the NTSB will be at the crash site tomorrow morning.
