Caseyville to get a New Branch Creek Bridge

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Public Information Officer, Keith Todd, tell us that Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Engineers are working with a contractor to start to work at quickly as possible on a new Branch Creek Bridge along KY 1508 in Caseyville in Union County.

Last Friday, KYTC Bridge Inspectors closed the Branch Creek at KY 1508 mile point 3.846 in Union County after they found additional deterioration to the substructure of the bridge. The bridge had been previously been posted with a 3-ton load limit which restricted travel at the site to passenger vehicles only.

A contract had been let for construction of a new bridge. However, it had been on hold awaiting better weather conditions in the spring. After negotiations with the contractor, work to construct a new Branch Creek Bridge is expected to start in the next few weeks as weather allows.

In addition to cold temperatures that may slow efforts to pour concrete on the new structure during the winter months, the construction worksite is near the Ohio River making it subject to flooding during high water. With that in mind, and the roadway already closed due to deterioration of the existing Branch Creek Bridge, the contractor plans to move ahead with work on the new bridge as quickly as possible.

This section of KY 1508 in the Caseyville community between Brooks Street and Caseyville Cemetery Road will remain closed until the new bridge is ready for traffic. There will be no marked detour.
