3 dead, 1 injured when van crashes in central Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A sheriff says three people have died and one has been injured after a van careened off the interstate in central Kentucky.

Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton told local media that deputies responded before daybreak Wednesday to a report that a van had gone off Interstate 64 and hit a tree before catching fire. He said first responders arrived to find three people dead and a fourth person injured. He said that person was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Travel lanes of I-64 have been reduced near the scene of the crash at mile marker 49 and traffic is moving slowly.

Investigators say it appears that a tire might have blown out causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
