Whitfield Votes to Protect Americans from Tax Increases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield (KY-01) voted on Thursday in support of the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act of 2015. The PATH Act makes permanent over 20 tax relief provisions including the Research and Experimentation Tax Credit, Section 179 business expensing, IRA Charitable Donations exclusion, and classroom expense deductions for K-12 teachers.

The bill also extends for 5 years or 2 years a number of other tax relief provisions that expired at the end of calendar year 2014, provides for a 2-year moratorium on the Obamacare medical device tax, and makes reforms to the IRS that will protect taxpayers from political targeting. Whitfield issued the following statement upon passage of this important legislation.

“America needs our economy moving and businesses creating jobs. This legislation will protect families from a massive tax hike and provide businesses the certainty they need to thrive and flourish. It’s past time for Congress to fix our broken tax system and this legislation a solid step in the right direction.”
