Whitfield to President Obama: Stop Playing Politics with Our Troops

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01) released the following statement regarding President Obama’s veto of the Fiscal Year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act agreement that authorizes funding for the U.S. Armed Forces next year. Fort Campbell, home to the 101st Airborne Division, elite 5th Special Forces Group, and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, is located in Whitfield’s district.

“It is appalling that President Obama would withhold the funding and resources that our brave and faithful troops at Fort Campbell and around the globe need to defend our nation, accomplish their missions, and provide for their families. It’s obvious the president is more concerned with playing politics than he is with funding our defense and providing a pay raise and enhanced retirement opportunities for our troops.”
