Weekend fire damages Morganfield home

A home in Morganfield suffered extensive heat and smoke damage due to a fire over the weekend.

Morganfield Fire Department Chief Ricky Millikan tells WMSK News that firefighters responded to a structure fire around 1:30 Saturday afternoon at the home of Margaret Shelton located at 127 West Parker Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the residence. Chief Millikan says firefighters held the fire until additional firefighters arrived on the scene and made an aggressive interior attack.

Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the fire. However, Chief Millikan says one firefighter was treated on the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

Morganfield Firefighters were assisted at the scene by the Morganfield Police Department, Whispering Meadows, Union County and Waverly Fire Departments, Union County EMS and Morganfield Public Works Department.

Chief Millikan indicates the cause of the fire is under investigation.
