VCSO: Pedestrian Hospitalized after Crash on Broadway Avenue

On Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 3:08pm the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Broadway Avenue west of Strueh Hendricks Road upon report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

According to authorities, an on scene investigation and statements taken from the driver and other witnesses indicated that a black 2002 Buick Rendezvous SUV had been traveling west on Broadway Avenue before striking a pedestrian. The pedestrian had just entered the roadway from the University of Southern Indiana Broadway Recreational Complex.

Prior to the collision, the pedestrian was reportedly running on the grounds of USI before she entered the roadway and continued running west in the westbound lane of Broadway Avenue.

VCSO says the pedestrian sustained multiple injuries (to include possible broken bones) and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The release indicates the driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital for drug and alcohol testing, which is standard procedure for a crash involving serious bodily injury.

The incident remains under investigation.
