VCSO: Motorcyclist Critically Injured during Crash on US 41 at Old State Road

On Monday, August 22, 2016 at approximately 5:04am the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and Scott Township Fire Department responded to the intersection of US Highway 41 and Old State Road upon report of crash involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival deputies found a motorcycle lying in the roadway fully engulfed in flames.

According to authorities, an on scene investigation indicated that a black 1999 Toyota pick-up driven by 42 year old Jeffrey Graper, of Evansville, IN, had been traveling east on Old State Road before entering the intersection at US 41 in order to travel north, and then was struck struck by a southbound 2004 Buel motorcycle operated by 52 year old Dale Dever, of Owensville, IN.

Police say Dever was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained severe injuries. The motorcycle caught fire and was completely destroyed.  Dever was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Pursuant to state law regarding crashes involving serious bodily injury or death, authorities indicate Graper consented to a post-accident blood draw. The investigation will remain open pending toxicology results.
