VANDERBURGH CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE
On Tuesday, January 05, 2016 at approximately 8:52 pm, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Diamond Avenue and St. Joseph Ave for an accident with injuries.
According to the release, on scene investigation and witness statements indicated that a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Mr. Jeffrey Allan Haynes had been westbound on Diamond Avenue at a high rate of speed when the vehicle crossed the center line and traveling into the eastbound lanes. Mr. Haynes’ vehicle reportedly glanced off the guardrail on the south side of the highway and entered the intersection of St. Joseph Avenue. Mr. Haynes’ vehicle then struck a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier that was turning south onto St. Joseph Avenue from westbound Diamond Avenue.
The driver of the Chevrolet Cavalier, a 19-year-old female, sustained a laceration to the side of her head. The driver was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
VCSO indicates Haynes did not appear injured as a result of the crash and refused medical attention. The investigating sheriff’s deputy reportedly observed that Haynes appeared intoxicated and says he failed all three Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, but refused to submit to an evidentiary chemical test for intoxication.
Haynes was then lodged at the Vanderburgh County Jail.
