VCSO: Alcohol a Factor in Early Morning Crash

Authorities say they believe alcohol was a factor in an early morning wreck in Vanderburgh County.

Around 3:16 a.m. Friday, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the wreck on North Posey County Line Road after a 911 caller stated that a pickup truck drove through their yard and hit parked vehicles. Deputies say the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 23 year old Jesse Ray Hertel of Posey County, was able to walk to a nearby home where the residents called an ambulance.

According to the release, evidence at the scene indicated Hertel had been northbound on North Posey County Line Road near connie Jo Court before leaving the road and hitting a tree and then colliding with a pickup truck and a box trailer that were parked in a driveway. Authorities say the impact pushed the truck and trailer into a nearby tree and the truck Hertel was driving continued north until it struck another tree.

Deputies say Hertel was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
