UPDATE: KSP Arrests Kansas Man on Trafficking Charges

After discovery of the first batch of currency, a more detailed search was conducted at Kentucky State Police Post 1 in a controlled environment. During the detailed search a non-factory access door leading to a false compartment was located in the vehicle. The compartment, which was lined with aluminum tape contained an additional $172,345 in U.S. currency. This currency in addition to the original $23,442 in U.S. currency brings the total amount seized to $195,787.00.

KSP Arrests Kansas Man on Trafficking Charges

Kuttawa, KY. (September 17, 2016) The Kentucky State Police stopped a 2005 Toyota Corolla traveling on Interstate 24, Thursday, September 15, 2016 at approximately 9:30 A.M. for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop Trooper First Class T.J. Williams observed several indicators of criminal activity. Tpr. Williams obtained consent to search the vehicle. During the search Trooper Williams located, 1/2 gram of crystal methamphetamine, a set of digital scales, and $23,442 cash concealed in a way consistent with trafficking.

The driver of the vehicle, Valentin Serrano-Balcazar, 28, of Kansas City, Kansas was subsequently arrested and charged with; Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st degree – Methamphetamine (Class D Felony), Possession of Controlled Substance – 1st degree – 1st offense – Methamphetamine (Class D Felony), and Drug Paraphernalia – Buy/Possess (Class A Misdemeanor).

The investigation is continuing by Trooper First Class T.J. Williams.

Valentin Serrano-Balcazar was lodged in the Caldwell County Detention Facility.
