Union County Mourns Death of Embattled County Judge Executive

MORGANFIELD, Ky. (AP) — An autopsy is scheduled for later today at the State Medical Examiner’s office in Madisonville to determine the cause of death of Union County Judge Executive “Jody” Jenkins. Union County Coroner Stephen Shouse says Jenkins was found dead early Sunday morning at a home in Sturgis. He was 44. Fowl play is not suspected.
You may recall Judge Jenkins was charged last September with four federal counts of scheming to defraud the county.
Federal prosecutors alleged Jenkins solicited and accepted approximately $20,000 in cash in 2014 in his official position as Union County Judge-Executive. The money allegedly came from someone identified in court documents only as “J.H.” Prosecutors said in return, Jenkins directed that false invoices be submitted by “J.H.” for payment by the county for purchase of equipment.
