UCSO: Sturgis man injured during altercation

Local authorities are continuing to investigate a stabbing that occurred Wednesday night in Union County.

Union County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Dame tells WMSK News the sheriff’s department and Sturgis Police Department were dispatched around 8:25 to the Qwik Stop in Sturgis where 30 year old James Derrick Tichenor had been stabbed. During the investigation, Deputy Dame says they learned that Tichenor had gone to the Qwik Stop to find 28 year old Tristan Wright to assault him and during the altercation Wright cut Tichenor with a pair of scissors.

According to Deputy Dame, Tichenor was given first aid by the Sturgis Fire Department and transported by the Union County Ambulance Service to the Methodist Hospital Union County with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputy Dame indicates the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time, but could be in the near future.
