Two Owensboro residents charged with drug possession after two-vehicle wreck

An Owensboro man is facing DUI and drug charges after police say he crashed a vehicle into a car and then took out a utility pole.

According to Owensboro Police, when officers arrived on the scene of the accident they determined that a westbound vehicle driven by 27 year old Robert Shadwick had crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane where he crashed into an eastbound passenger car and then struck a utility pole.

Police say the electrical lines created a hazard to other vehicles and pedestrians, forcing officers to close KY 144 between Commerce Drive and Pleasant Valley Road for about two hours while utility crews repaired the lines.

Authorities report Shadwick and his passenger, 18 year old Keelie Benningfield of Owensboro, were arrested and booked into the Daveiss County Detention Center on charges of first degree possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say Shadwick was also charged for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
