Trial Date Set for Man Charged with Robbery at Morganfield Bank

The trial date has been set for a local man charged in connection to an armed robbery at a Morganfield bank.

Antonio Smith, of Morganfield, appeared in Union County Circuit Court Tuesday morning for a motion hour. The judge set a pretrial conference for 9:00 a.m. on November 14, 2016. He is set to stand trial before a jury on January 31, 2017 on charges of first degree robbery, two counts of first degree wanton endangerment and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

Smith is accused of walking into Fifth Third Bank in Morganfield on December 23, 2015 wearing a mask and armed with a handgun. Local police say he demanded money from the teller and then fled the bank and got away with about 8-thousand dollars.

After a week-long investigation by Morganfield Police, he was arrested on December 31, 2015 after a search warrant was served at Northside Apartments by several law enforcement agencies. While at the apartment, police reportedly recovered the gun and several items of clothing worn during the robbery.

Smith remains lodged in the Union County Detention Center.
