Tri-County Recycling Center in Henderson will be idled

The Tri-County Recycling Center in Henderson will be idled on or before June 30 because of the current market conditions with recyclable items.

Henderson Mayor Steve Austin says in a news release the market has gone down for recycled products really drastically, and the losses they are experiencing right now are not sustainable for the long haul.

City officials indicate Henderson Recycling, a partnership of the City of Henderson and the County of Henderson, has been losing about 22-thousand dollars a month in their portion of Tri-County Recycling.

According to officials, the idling of the processing center does not impact the curbside recycling program or the ability of citizens to drop off recyclables at the Henderson County Garage. Officials say Union and Webster counties also will keep their drop-off sites open in their individual counties.

Mayor Austin says market conditions will continue to be monitored and they will try their best to keep the recycling program going.
