Due to rain in the forecast for tonight there will be no northbound lane restriction on the US 41 Twin Bridges between Henderson and Evansville tonight, April 21, 2017

Northbound motorists traveling the US 41 Twin Bridges at Henderson and Evansville should be prepared to encounter a night work zone Saturday through Friday, April 22-28, 2017

In an effort to minimize DAYTIME work zone traffic restrictions on the US 41 Twin Bridges the contractor has agreed to complete as much of the ongoing work as possible during nighttime hours. This will shift the work to off-peak travel periods to help reduce traffic disruptions.

The contractor plans a NIGHT lane restriction for northbound traffic Saturday through Friday, April 22-28, 2017. Northbound motorists can expect to encounter a lane restriction between approximately 6 p.m., CDT, and approximately 6 a.m., anytime weather allows.

This northbound lane restriction on the US 41 Twin Bridges during overnight hours is to allow ongoing repairs to the bridge structure. Again, this northbound lane restriction is expected to be in place from approximately 6 p.m., CDT, to approximately 6 a.m., each night for about the next week.

Northbound motorists should be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach the Twin Bridges at night this week.

The move to night work on the US 41 Twin Bridges came after KYTC Engineers and the contractor determined that the remaining work could be completed safely and efficiently at night. At this time, the contractor is confident that all remaining work can be completed at night.

Hall Contracting is the prime contractor on this $527,000 steel upgrade to both the southbound and northbound bridges. Due to some additional work that may be required, the target completion date has been moved to May 5, 2017.

Another contractor has some guardrail work to complete along the approaches to the US 41 Twin Bridges in coming weeks.

These maintenance projects on the US 41 Twin Bridges have to be completed before the start of a major rehab planned along the US 41 Corridor scheduled to start in early-May. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) are planning a major 3-year rehabilitation project along the US 41 Corridor between the US 41 Twin Bridges and the I-69 Interchange at the south edge of Evansville. This joint project headed by INDOT includes a deck overlay driving surface on the southbound bridge. For more information go to: http://www.in.gov/indot/3459.htm

The US 41 Twin Bridges, also known as the Bi-State Viet Nam Gold Star Memorial Bridges, are located at US 41 mile point 19.649 about a mile south of the Kentucky-Indiana State Line. They carry approximately 40,000 vehicles per day across the Ohio River between Henderson, KY, and Evansville, IN.

The bridges are located about a mile downstream from the confluence of the Green River and the Ohio River at Ohio River navigation mile point 786.8. The Twin Bridges have a total length of 5, 393.6 ft. with a 720 ft. main navigation span. The bridge superstructure is a Warren cantilevered through-truss design.

The northbound bridge was opened to traffic on July 4, 1932. The southbound bridge was opened to traffic on December 16, 1965.
