Traffic UPDATE – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to continue a NORTHBOUND work zone lane restriction on the US 41 Twin Bridges at Henderson STARTING TUESDAY
March 27th, 2017
Due to approaching thunderstorms there will be NO NORTHBOUND LANE RESTRICTION on the US 41 Twin Bridges TODAY.
The contractor anticipates weather will clear enough to allow a northbound lane restriction to resume on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, and continue through Friday.
On Tuesday and Wednesday all traffic is expected to move to the left-hand or passing lane in the work zone.
A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to continue a NORTHBOUND work zone lane restriction on the US 41 Twin Bridges at Henderson through Friday, March 31,2017.
The contractor will be working on the northbound bridge from 7 a.m., to 5 p.m., CDT, on Sunday, weather permitting.
A daytime work zone lane restriction on the northbound bridge is expected to be in place from approximately 8:30 a.m. to about 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday of this week.
On Monday and Tuesday all traffic will move to the left-hand or passing lane in this work zone. By Tuesday the contractor should be able to assess progress and determine the lane configuration requirements for the remainder of the week.
Northbound motorists should be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach the US 41 Twin Bridges this week. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
The contractor has committed to minimizing lane restrictions by doing as much work as possible underneath the bridge structure.
Hall Contracting is the prime contractor on this $527,000 steel upgrade to both the southbound and northbound bridges. This project has a target completion date of April 15, 2017.
Another contractor has some guardrail work to complete along the approaches to the US 41 Twin Bridges in coming weeks.
These maintenance projects on the US 41 Twin Bridges have to be completed before the start of a major rehab planned along the US 41 Corridor scheduled to start in early-May. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) are planning a major 3-year rehabilitation project along the US 41 Corridor between the US 41 Twin Bridges and the I-69 Interchange at the south edge of Evansville. This joint project headed by INDOT includes a deck overlay driving surface on the southbound bridge. For more information go to: http://www.in.gov/indot/3459.htm

The Twin Bridges have a total length of 5, 393.6 ft. with a 720 ft. main navigation span. The bridge superstructure is a Warren cantilevered through-truss design.
The northbound bridge was opened to traffic on July 4, 1932. The southbound bridge was opened to traffic on December 16, 1965.
