Police: Driver Cited after Striking Student at School Bus Stop

An Evansville driver was cited after authorities say he hit a student waiting for a school bus.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to Oak Hill Road around 7:55 a.m. Wednesday after a 911 caller reported that a juvenile had been struck by a passing motorist. The sheriff’s office reports a deputy arrived on the scene in less than two minutes and attended to a 10 year old student who had minor injuries.

According to authorities, evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated that a sedan driven by 35 year old Micah D. Hotchkiss was traveling southbound on Oak Hill Road when he disregarded a school bus stop arm and flashing lights and hit the student, knocking her to the ground. Prior to being hit, police say the student had been walking across the southbound lane of Oak Hill Road toward the stopped school bus.

The 10 year old girl was transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Police cited Hotchkiss for Reckless Driving causing Bodily Injury, which is a Class A Misdemeanor.
