Police believe Nortonville man suffered a heart attack before his vehicle crashed into tree

Police believe a Hopkins County man died of a heart attack Sunday morning before his vehicle ran off the road and crashed into a tree.

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the wreck around 9:40 Sunday morning on Hopkinsville Road near C. Cunningham Road. Witnesses reportedly told deputies that the driver of the vehicle, identified 50 year old James Perkins of Nortonville, was driving north on Hopkinsville Road when his vehicle began to veer over into the southbound lane and then crossed the southbound lane and traveled about 150 feet into a ditch, exited the ditch and then hit a tree.

According to the report, authorities believe Perkins had a heart attack while driving and that was the cause of his death.
