Paducah revitalization project seen as model for others

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) — Officials say a revitalization project that has targeted a 20-block area of Paducah stands as a model for Kentucky neighborhoods that are trying to deal with drug use, gang activity, litter and excessive noise.

The Paducah Sun (http://bit.ly/2f3quxj ) reports that Kentucky League of Cities President and Sadieville Mayor Claude Christensen on Tuesday presented the city commission with the KLC’s Enterprise Cities Award for the Fountain Avenue revitalization. The award recognizes city projects or programs that are positively affecting their communities.

Since the project started in 2007, 36 new homes have been built, while 84 existing homes received more than $10,000 in improvements.

More than $13 million has poured into Fountain Avenue through public-private investment and crime has decreased by 76 percent.
