Owensboro woman charged with DUI, assault, other offenses after single-vehicle wreck

A single-vehicle wreck in Daviess County Sunday night landed an Owensboro woman in jail facing DUI, assault and multiple other charges.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the wreck in the 37-hundred block of Pleasant Valley Road near the intersection with Thruston-Dermont Road around 11:00 p.m. Sunday where 36 year old Melanie Schwartz had exited the roadway and crashed into a tree.

According to the report, deputies determined Schwartz was under the influence of alcohol and she was arrested and taken to the emergency room at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries to her arms and legs before begin booked in the Daviess County Detention Center.

Authorities say a passenger in Schwartz’s vehicle, 37 year old Harley Blair, was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be rescued by the Daviess County Thruston Volunteer Fire Department and the Daviess County Fire Department. He was transported by ambulance the ER at Owensboro Health and treated for several injuries including multiple broken bones.

Schwartz was booked into the Daviess County Jail for DUI aggravated, second degree assault, possession of open alcohol beverage container inside vehicle, operator’s license not in possession, first degree possession of a controlled substance and prescription not in proper container.
