Owensboro man arrested and charged with fleeing from police and assaulting officer

What started out as a traffic stop ended with an Owensboro man behind bars facing charges of fleeing police,assaulting an officer and other offenses.

Kentucky State Police reports around 1:00 Sunday morning state troopers assisted the Owensboro Police Department with a traffic stop at the intersection of 4th Street and Carter Avenue in the city limits and while officers were investigating 33 year old Cortney McCormick for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, police say he fled the scene on foot. During a foot chase, KSP says McCormick turned and assaulted the officers and then fled again to the backyard of a residence in the 3000 block of Ridgewood Drive where he was taken into custody without further incident.

McCormick was taken into custody and transported to the Daviess County Detention Center where he was charged with DUI 2nd Offense Aggravating Circumstances, Fleeing and Evading 2nd Degree (On Foot), Resisting Arrest, Assault 3rd Degree – Police Officer, Probation Violation Warrant for Persistent Felony Offender II and numerous other offenses.
