October 2016 Union County Grand Jury Indictments

During the October 2016 session, the Union County Grand Jury indicted 5 individuals, remanded charges against two people to district court, and returned a no true bill.

The grand jury indicted 40 year old Carl A. Nichols and his wife Stacey R. Nichols, both of Morganfield, for Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree. Mr. Nichols was also indicted for Assault, Second Degree. As previously reported by WMSK News, the charges stem from August 2, 2016 when the Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute on KY 56 West about five miles from Morganfield where they reported Mrs. Nichols was shot by her husband. Authorities said both parties claimed the shooting was accidental. At the time of the shooting, Deputy Kyle Dame reported a three year old child was inside the residence but was uninjured during the altercation. Mrs. Nichols was airlifted to an Evansville hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

18 year old Nicholas Page of Enfield, KY was indicted for two counts of Fleeing or Evading Police, First Degree, (Motor Vehicle); two counts of Wanton Endangerment, First Degree; Failure to Illuminate Head Lights; Speeding 26 MPH Over/Greater; Reckless Driving; Disregarding Traffic Control Device, Traffic Light; and Improper Stopping at Flashing Red Light. The charges stem from a high speed chase involving the local sheriff’s office and police department in June that started when Officer Eric McCallister tried to make a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Page in front of the Union County Shopping Center, but authorities reported Page fled and led them on a pursuit reaching speeds of 105 mph into Gallatin County, Illinois where he ditched the vehicle in a cornfield and fled from the scene.

The grand jury indicted 28 year old Joshua Woolridge of Morganfield for Sexual Abuse, 1st Degree. Union County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Dame reported Woolridge was arrested in June after an investigation into allegations of inappropriate contact with a minor.

Terence L. Frazier was indicted for Reckless Driving; Careless Driving; Improper Equipment; Failure to Produce Insurance Card; Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Insurance/Security Card, First Offense; No/Expired Registration; No/Expired Kentucky Registration Receipt; Operating Motor Vehicle Under Influence of Alcohol/Drugs, .08, Fourth or Greater Offense within Ten Years; and Terroristic Threatening, Third Degree.

The Union County grand jury remanded a case against Darrell S. Royster for Assault, Fourth Degree back to district court.

In addition, the grand jury remanded two charges against 30 year old Shane W. Alexander of Morganfield for Possession of Marijuana; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, back to the district court, and returned a no true bill for a charge of Promoting Contraband, First Degree. A no true bill means the grand jury did not find enough evidence to indict the individual for the said charges.
