New Storm Siren Operational in Henderson

NEWS RELEASE FROM:

CITY OF HENDERSON PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER DONNA STINNETT

HENDERSON, KY, April 28, 2016– The emergency storm siren located at U.S. 41 and Watson Lane is functional again.

The unit was damaged by high winds late last fall and has been out of service. City officials determined that it was not feasible to repair, and a new one was ordered.

The new siren was installed about two weeks ago and, after testing and inspections, went on line this week just as the community experienced a string of storms with the threat of severe weather.

City Manager Russell Sights said it is not practical to keep a spare siren on the shelf.

“The one-year warranty period on a new siren begins the day it is shipped,” he said. “So a new siren could sit on a shelf for a year and be out of warranty the day it was installed.”
