New business opening in Sturgis will employ 30 people

Union County heard some good news this morning…a new business will be opening in Sturgis.

Kyndle CEO Brad Schneider said the new job addition to Union County is The Wood Mill.

He said it’s nice to add jobs when the news hasn’t been the greatest, but this could be the beginning of some terrific things.

Amy Hutchinson told the crowd on hand The Wood Mill is a family-owned business that will be located in Sturgis, and they are excited to bring and create jobs in Union County. She said the idea took root as they began to log one of their farms late last year and realized there was an opportunity in this market for a sawmill.

Jim and Amy Hutchinson’s business partners are Perry and Michael Hopper and Matt Hutchinson.

Union County First Director of Community Development Garrick Thompson said he didn’t know Jim and Amy that well prior to the business venture, but they have been great people to work with. He added that he is very excited about this project.

Union County Fiscal Court Magistrate and Sturgis resident Chuck Voss welcomed the owners of the new business.

And Sturgis Mayor Mike Hardesty told the crowd it’s great to have a new business in the city.

The Wood Mill will be located in the former Quinn Lumber building at 9236 U.S. Highway 60 in Sturgis.
