Two local men were arrested in Morganfield Tuesday night on drug charges.

Around 7:30 Tuesday night, Morganfield Police Officer Zac Render tells WMSK News officers conducted a routine traffic stop on West Waverly Street on a vehicle driven by 52 year old Jeffery T. Smith of Clay. Upon further investigation, police say officers located and seized a number of key components used to produce methamphetamine, as well as several meth smoking pipes, meth and other forms of drug paraphernalia.

Smith and his passenger, 56 year old Randall S. Steward of Morganfield, were taken into custody and lodged in the Union County Detention Center for manufacturing meth. In addition, Smith was charged for not having an operator’s license, failure to maintain required insurance and failure to signal.
