Motorcycle Officer Hit By Vehicle While Assisting Stranded Motorist

Evansville Police report a motorcycle officer will be undergoing surgery after he suffered multiple fractures in his leg when he was hit by a vehicle while helping a stranded motorist.

Around Noon Tuesdsy, police say EPD Officer Allen Gansman was pushing a stalled vehicle out of the road when a southbound car crashed into the vehicle, pushing it into the officer.

Meanwhile, authorities say Diamond Avenue is closed between St Joe and Kratzville due to the crash.

According to police, the officer and the driver of the stranded vehicle are being treated at Deaconess Hospital for injuries.
They say crash reconstructionist are at the scene and will have the road closed until further notice.
They are asking motorists to avoid the area.
