Morganfield Teen Indicted for Murder, Other Charges in Connection to Fatal Wreck

A Morganfield teen was indicted Tuesday morning by the Union County Grand Jury for murder and other charges in connection to a wreck last month that claimed the life of a 16 year old Webster County girl.

During the July term session, the grand jury indicted 19 year old Maxwell C. McMain for murder, first degree Wanton Endangerment, Operating on a Suspended/Revoked Operator’s License – Second Offense in Five Years Aggravator, his third offense of Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs, and Failure to Wear Seatbelts.

The charges stem from a single-vehicle wreck on KY 492 in Union County in the early morning hours of June 5, 2016 when state police reported McMain lost control of the vehicle he was driving, causing it to overturn multiple times and eject him and his passenger, 16 year old Kaci Wood of Sebree. Wood was pronounced dead shortly after the wreck at Union County Methodist Hospital. McMain was transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. According to police, neither McMain nor Wood was wearing seatbelts. Another passenger in the vehicle who police say was buckled up, 20 year old Jacob Hood of Morganfield, was not injured in the accident.

McMain was arrested by KSP detectives on the afternoon of June 8, 2016. He remains lodged in the Union County Jail under a 1-million dollar bond.

McMain’s next court appearance is scheduled in Union County Circuit Court at 9:00 a.m., October 10, 2016.
