Morganfield man charged with murder in fatal wreck appeared for arraignment Thursday

A Morganfield man appeared in Union County District Court for his arraignment Thursday morning in connection to a wreck that claimed the life of a 16 year old Sebree girl. 19 year old Maxwell McMain entered a not guilty plea to charges of murder and other offenses. Court officials say the kidnapping charge was dropped.

McMain’s charges stem from a wreck on KY 492 in the early morning hours of June 5, 2016, when for an unknown reason, state police say he lost control of the car he was driving, causing it to overturn multiple times and eject him and his passenger, 16 year old Kaci Wood. Police report Wood died at Methodist Hospital Union County. McMain was transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville where he was released two days later.

McMain was arrested at his home by detectives the afternoon of June 8th, just hours after the funeral services for Wood.

The 19 year old Morganfield man remains lodged in the Union County Jail under a 1-million dollar bond on charges of murder, kidnapping (death of victim), his third offense for driving under the influence under aggravating circumstances, driving on a DUI suspended license under aggravating circumstances, first degree wanton endangerment and no seatbelt. Police indicated neither McMain nor Wood were wearing seatbelts at the time of the wreck.

McMain is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Thursday, June, 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
