Morganfield man charged with murder appears for arraignment

A Morganfield man charged with murder in connection to the death of a local teenager appeared for an arraignment this morning in Union County District Court.

Court documents indicate 22 year old Steven Freeman Jr. entered a not guilty plea and was appointed a public defender. His bond remains at $500,000.

Freeman is charged with murder, DUI and driving on a suspended operator’s license in connection to the death of 17 year old Damon Collins of Morganfield.

Wednesday night, February 10, 2016 just after 8:00, Kentucky State Police says Freeman was driving a vehicle when he hit and killed Collins while riding his bicycle on Highway 2091 in the Whispering Meadows area. Collins was airlifted from the scene to an Evansville hospital where he died from his injuries.

Freeman was arrested by the Union County Sheriff’s Department and remains lodged in the Union County Detention Center.

Freeman will appear for a preliminary hearing Thursday morning, February 18, 2016 at 11:00 in Union County District Court.
