Morganfield City Council Special Called Meeting on June 15, 2016

During a special called meeting Wednesday evening, Morganfield City Council members reviewed and discussed a Certified Public Accountant Firm to conduct the audit for fiscal year ending June 30, 2016, reviewed and voted on the second reading of the amended Budget for fiscal year ending June 30, 2016, and reviewed bids received for the Phase II Combined Sewer Separation Project.

City Administrator Gary Vetter says the Finance Committee met and based on their review of the proposals recommended McElroy, Mitchell & Associates of Morganfield as the CPA firm to conduct the audit for fiscal year ending June 30, 2016. Councilmen unanimously approved the recommendation. The local CPA firm has conducted previous audits for the City of Morganfield.

In other action, Vetter tells me councilmen unanimously approved the 2nd Reading of the Amended Budget for fiscal year ending June 30, 2016.

He adds that a lot of the deficit was due to the mild winter and the City was not able to generate the revenue normally generated.

And councilmen did not take any action regarding the two bids received for Phase II of the Combined Sewer Separation project. Vetter says Dave Derrick of Derrick Engineering in Louisville presented the bids received, but the lowest bid was hundreds of thousands of dollars higher than estimated by the project engineers.

The Phase II Combined Sewer Project will run through the middle of Morganfield from around Morton Street to O’Bannon Street. In addition, Vetter says there is a water portion of the project that will extend from O’Bannon Street to near where the former Broadview Theatre was located.

The next regularly scheduled Morganfield City Council meeting will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at Morganfield City Hall.
