McLean County Regional Water Commission groundbreaking ceremony Thursday at regional water plant

State and local officials will be gathering for a groundbreaking ceremony this week as the McLean County Regional Water Commission (MCRWC) host a groundbreaking ceremony for its much-anticipated regional water plant.

Officials will celebrate the formal start of the construction on the nearly 10-million dollar state-of-the-art facility at the Calhoun Water Treatment Plant, capable of processing 2 million gallons of drinking water daily. State officials say in a release this new infrastructure will provide a safe, reliable and cost-effective water supply that will allow residents’ water rates to remain low.

With the assistance of Green River Area Development District, the McLean County Regional Water Commission was officially created in 2012, with the goal of regionalizing water operations for the county. According to state officials, they have secured U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development and Community Development Block Grant funding.

This past August, Governor Beshear presented the McLean County Regional Water Commission with the 2015 Spirit of Kentucky award, given annually to recognize an innovative regional project in the Commonwealth that demonstrates cost-effective coordination of government resources.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 at the water plant.
