A 44 year old man previously arrested for drug trafficking and drug possession offenses in Union and Henderson County has been taken into custody again for trafficking and possessing drugs.

Around 2:00 Thursday morning, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies made a traffic stop on Washington Street of a Jeep driven by Raul Nieves for suspicion of operating a motor vehicle under the influence. While conducting an investigation regarding the DUI, authorities indicate several items were located that were indicative of the sell and distribution of illegal substances.

According to the sheriff’s office, Nieves was also served two warrants from Union County.

Nieves was taken into custody and charged with his second DUI offense, first degree Possession of Controlled Substance (Heroin) 1st Offense, first degree Possession of Controlled Substance 2nd Offense (Methamphetamine), first degree Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Offense (<2 grams Heroin), first degree Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Offense (<2 grams Meth), Trafficking Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container 1st Offense, No Operators-Moped License, No Registration Plates and No Registration Receipt.

Previously, Nieves was arrested on July 7, 2015 at a home on 3rd Street in Uniontown after Uniontown Police Chief Thomas Byrd told WMSK News they responded to an assault complaint and officers found meth and drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Union County Jail charged with trafficking and possession of meth.

In April 2015, WMSK News reported Nieves was arrested by Kentucky State Police after a trooper conducted a traffic stop for a suspected DUI in Henderson. He was booked into the Henderson County Jail for charges of DUI and possession of a controlled substance and other offenses.

Following Nieves’ arrest early Thursday morning, he was lodged in the Henderson County Detention Center.
