Madisonville man injured after jumping from burning U-Haul truck

A Madisonville man was injured over the weekend after a U-Haul truck caught on fire in Henderson County.

Around 2:05 p.m. Saturday, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Henderson and Baskett Fire Departments, and other emergency personnel responded to a vehicle fire on the southbound bridge. Upon arrival, authorities say the driver Stephan Marshall stated he was driving a U-Haul truck when he noticed fire coming from the engine compartment, and when he tried to stop the truck he did not have any brakes. He reportedly told deputies smoke and heat began to fill the cab.

The sheriff’s office says one passenger in the U-Haul truck, 31 year old Gary Steven Koller of Madisonville, jumped out of the vehicle as it was moving and broke his collarbone when he hit the roadway. Authorities indicate Marshall and another passenger, Vanessa Shaw, got out of the vehicle without being injured.
