A local physician charged with growing marijuana appeared in court on Thursday.

According to court documents, Dr. William Bebout appeared in Union County District Court for a pre-trial conference Thursday morning, but the case was continued.

The local physician was arrested on October 7, 2015 after a joint investigation by the Morganfield Police Department and the Union County Sheriff’s Office led local authorities to his home where police reportedly found and seized equipment indicative of an indoor marijuana growing operation, along with marijuana, drug paraphernalia and dozens of firearms.

Dr. Bebout was initially charged with felony offenses of Cultivation of Marijuana (< 5 Plants) 1st Offense, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, all firearm enhanced. However, the Union County Grand Jury dismissed the felony firearm enhancement offenses and his case was remanded back to District Court for the misdemeanor charges.

Dr. Bebout’s next court appearance will be March 3rd.
