A section of KY 56 West of Morganfield in Union County will be closed for 2 days beginning Monday, weather permitting.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says KY 56 will be closed in Monday and Tuesday to allow installation of two culverts and paving of a temporary section of the highway. KY 56 will be closed west of KY 3393/The Morganfield Bypass extending to near the intersection of KY 1594. He indicates this work is scheduled on a weather permitting basis.
According to Todd, there will be a marked detour for passenger vehicles. Eastbound traffic will detour via KY 1594 to KY 947. Westbound traffic will detour via KY 947 to KY 1594. Trucks should continue to follow the legal travel route via KY 109 and US 60.
Todd says this work is part of efforts to widen KY 56 between Morganfield and the Shawneetown Bridge to allow it to become part of the National Truck Network and capable of carrying over the road trucks.
