KY 1078 to Close at Spottsville in HENDERSON County Nov 29-Dec 2

Motorists traveling in Henderson County need to be aware the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to close a section of KY 1078 just north of US 60 in Spottsville beginning Tuesday.

Spokesman Keith Todd says KY 1078 will be closed just north of US 60 in Spottsville to allow Geotech drilling. He indicates this is on KY 1078 just off the west end of the US 60 Green River Bridge in Spottsville. The crew anticipates starting work Tuesday afternoon and Todd says KY 1078 will remain closed until they complete their work sometime on Friday, December 2.

In May, Todd says a KYTC Geotech crew spent a couple of weeks drilling at this site to test sub-surface soil and rock density to assist with design and engineering to prepare for eventual construction of a New US 60 Green River Bridge. He adds that the crew is returning to the site to collect some additional data to assist with design of the new bridge.

Officials report about 200 vehicles travel this section of KY 1078 in an average day. They say this closure of KY 1078 at the intersection with US 60 does not impact traffic on US 60 through Spottsville.

According to Todd, there will be no marked detour. Residents along KY 1078 on the north side of US 60 will have access from the westernmost connection to US 60 near Baskett.

Officials indicate the crew plans some additional exploratory drilling at Spottsville next month, weather permitting.

Todd says construction of a new US 60 Green River Bridge at Spottsville is on track for a start date in late 2018 or 2019.
