KSP works fatal collision in Graves County, 95 year old woman killed on lawn mower

(Melber, KY) – A 95 year old woman riding a lawn mower was killed this morning when state police say she was hit by a vehicle being driven by a  man who was charged with drug possession and DUI.

The Kentucky State Police responded to a two vehicle injury collision on October 12, 2015 at approximately 12:42 P.M. The two vehicle collision occurred around the 3200 block of KY 1820 in Melber where a preliminary investigation shows 95 year old Helen M. Adams of Melber, KY was operating a riding lawn mower traveling east on KY 1820 when a 1999 GMC pickup truck driven by 24 year old William R. Crumbaugh of Cunningham, KY ran into the rear of the lawn mower, causing Adams to be ejected.

According to KSP, Adams was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN where she succumbed to her injuries.

Crumbaugh was taken into custody prior to Adams passing away and charged with Assault 1st degree, Operating a motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs 2nd offense aggravating circumstance, Driving on DUI Suspended 3rd aggravating circumstances, Possession of Marijuana, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Crumbaugh was served with an outstanding warrant out of McCracken County for Failure to Appear. Crumbaugh was lodged in the Graves County Jail. Since Adams passed away KSP will be seeking to amend the assault 1st degree charge to murder.

The Kentucky State Police was assisted on the scene by Mayfield EMS, Melber Fire Department, McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, and the Graves County Sheriff’s Department. Trooper Will Propes is continuing his investigation into the collision.
