KSP: Vehicle Pursuit Leads to Arrest of a Providence man and a Morganfield man

A vehicle pursuit with state police in Webster County Thursday night landed a Providence man and a Morganfield man in jail facing numerous charges.

According to Kentucky State Police, a trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding around 10:00 Thursday night on KY 109 in Wheatcroft, but as the trooper got out of his cruiser and approached the vehicle, the driver fled at a high rate of speed.

State Police say the pursuit continued for about ten miles until the suspect turned the vehicle onto KY 132 West where the Webster County Sheriff’s Department had blocked the road with a cruiser, causing the suspect to stop. The operator of the vehicle, 27 year old Brian Perkins of Providence, exited the vehicle but state police say he would not comply with the officer’s commands and he was subdued and taken into custody. Authorities indicate the passenger, 21 year old Jonathan Willett of Morganfield, was taken into custody without incident.

Perkins and Willett were charged with 1st Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance. In addition, Perkins was charged with numerous other offenses including 1st Degree Trafficking a Controlled Substance (> or = 2 grams of methamphetamine), DUI aggravating circumstances, 1st Degree Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree Fleeing/Evading Police in a motor vehicle, and Speeding 26 miles per hour or greater over the speed limit. Willett was also charged with Public Intoxication and 1st Degree Promoting Contraband.

Both subjects were lodged in the Webster County Detention Center.
