KSP: Tip leads to arrest of Mayfield couple for cultivating marijuana

(Mayfield, KY.) – On February 16, 2016 Kentucky State Police, Post 1 received an anonymous tip through the Kentucky State Police Text-a-Tip Program of an indoor grow operation located on Ridgeland Drive in Mayfield, KY.

KSP reports troopers responded to the scene to perform a knock and talk and were able to gain enough evidence to obtain a search warrant for the residence. Upon execution of the search warrant, troopers reportedly located five marijuana plants, six long guns, two pistols, two silencers, eight storage boxes of ammunition, a tactical vest, and multiple items used to cultivate marijuana. State Police indicate two more marijuana plants were located discarded in a trash can behind the residence.

Authorities found and arrested 35 year old Tyler M. Smoyer and 32 year old Victoria L. Shaw Smoyer, both of Mayfield for charges of Cultivating Marijuana – 5 plants or more, Firearm Enhanced (Class C Felony), Possession of Marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor). Both subjects were lodged in the Graves County Jail.

WPSD Channel 6 in Paducah reports Tori Shaw is a meteorologist there at the TV station.

The investigation continues by Trooper Adam Jones.

Kentucky State Police Troopers were assisted on scene by the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.
