KSP: Motorcycle Chase Over 150 mph Ends in Crash

Kentucky State Police are investigating a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash on US-79 around 9:10 p.m. Friday.

KSP reports the preliminary investigation revealed that 26 year old Justin Heidel, of Russellville, was driving a Yamaha motorcycle on its rear wheel on US-79 northbound in Todd County and was speeding 100 mph in 55 mph zone.

According to police, a trooper initiated his emergency equipment to signal for the motorcyclist to stop, but Heidel accelerated up to speeds of 155 mph. Authorities say the pursuit entered Logan County and Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies joined the pursuit where Heidel’s sport bike exited the roadway and Heidel was ejected. Police report Heidel’s motorcycle the crashed into a telephone pole.

Heidel, whom police say was wearing a helmet, was arrested and transported by ambulance to Logan County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Heidel was charged with Reckless Driving, Speeding 26 mph or more, No motorcycle operator’s license, Fleeing and Evading 1st degree (motor vehicle), Failure to produce insurance card.

KSP is investigating the collision. KSP Post 3 units, Logan County Sheriff’s Department, Russellville Police Department, the Russellville Fire Department, and the Logan County EMS assisted at the scene.
