Twenty-two individuals were charged with Cruelty to Animals after state police raided a cockfighting event in Calloway County over the weekend.
Around 7:20 Saturday morning, Kentucky State Police responded to a report of a cockfighting event being held in a building off Protemus Road in Lynn Grove. According to state police, when troopers arrived they found over 30 dead gamecocks as well as over 35 live roosters and hens. Of the 22 individuals found on the scene, 19 were cited and released for second degree Cruelty to Animals.
In addition, State Police indicate 50 year old Billy Biggs of Adolphus, KY was arrested on two unrelated outstanding arrest warrants and also charged with second degree Cruelty to Animals, and 23 year old Seth Burnett of Murray was arrested for first degree Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and second degree Cruelty to Animals. State Police also arrested the owner of the building, 53 year old Jack Morgan of Benton, for second degree Cruelty to Animals.
A small camper and box trailer were found on the scene, which state police say were being used to house the live poultry. KSP reportedly seized the camper and box trailer along with approximately 4-thousand dollars in cash.
The report indicates the poultry have been turned over to the Calloway County Humane Society.
According to the release, Kentucky State Police are continuing to investigate this case.
