Kentucky Board of Education considers commissioner contract

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky Board of Education is meeting Tuesday to ratify a contract with the new state education commissioner, Stephen Pruitt.

Pruitt is expected to attend the meeting and speak after the vote.

The board voted last month to hire Pruitt to succeed Terry Holliday, who retired in August. Associate Commissioner Kevin Brown has been serving as interim commissioner.

Pruitt has been an educator in Georgia and is currently senior vice president of an independent education reform organization, Achieve Inc., where he has been since 2010.

He is expected to begin work in Kentucky later this month.

The meeting, which starts at 8:30 a.m. EDT, will be webcast. Information about accessing the webcast will be available the day of the meeting at the Education Department’s website, http://education.ky.gov/Pages/default.aspx .
