KDVA Celebrating Nursing Home Week

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 12, 2017) Governor Matt Bevin has proclaimed it to be Nursing Home Week in Kentucky May 14-20 and Kentucky’s three state Veterans Centers will be celebrating with events for residents, staff, family and friends.

At Joseph “Eddie” Ballard Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, the theme of Nursing Home Week is “The Spirit of America.” There will be good old-fashioned American Pastime games, activities and treats each day for residents and staff. There will be a fishing casting competition, Corn Hole and Washers, plus treats like soft-serve ice cream, sno-cones and popcorn. Events start on Monday and conclude on Friday.

Monday: Residents will be playing Badminton in the morning and in the afternoon Activities and Admissions will be serving popsicles in the courtyard.
Tuesday: Corn Hole games in the courtyard and the WKVC Men’s Music group will be entertaining in the afternoon.
Wednesday: Frisbee Golf in the courtyard and in the afternoon staff will be serving non-alcoholic summer sangrias.
Thursday: Residents will play a hula-hoop casting game followed by a lemonade bar for residents, family, visitors and staff.
Friday: Residents will play a couple of their favorite games and in the afternoon staff will be serving chocolate and vanilla soft serve ice cream to residents, visitors and staff.
At the Paul Patton Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard, events begin early on Saturday with a Derby Party, and continue throughout the week:

Monday: Bingo with the D.A.V followed by the grand opening of the new cafe and a pizza party.
Tuesday: Big country breakfast in the new café, music/storytelling by Johnny Pop Day and friends, and a trip to V.F.W that evening.
Wednesday: Paintsville D.A.R will be assisting with a cookout on the front lawn including music. Playing track and field type games to incorporate staff into the fun filled day. There will be a Birds of Prey presentation by the Letcher County Extension office. The evening will end with a bonfire and live music.
Thursday: Residents will be attending Senior Games at the Knott County Sportsplex. Fresh fruit and smoothies in the Pavilion after the return from the Senior Games. The day will conclude with a performance by a live bluegrass band.
Friday: Fishing outing followed by an evening of country musicians and an ice cream social hosted by Ponderosa.
Saturday: Morning Bingo and an outing to Sweet Frog. In the evening there will be a cookout hosted by D.A.V.

Thomson-Hood Veterans Center is going to celebrate the Spirit of America for National nursing home week by celebrating its unique cultures and diversities.
