Illinois man arrested for unlawful possession of Hypodermic Needle

GIBSON CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE

On March 20, 2016, at 9:53 p.m. Sergeant Roger Ballard was dispatched to County Road 270 North in East Mount Carmel to locate a stranded motorist. Upon locating the vehicle a Silver 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse, authorities say Sergeant Ballard asked the driver 29 year old Aaron Vanmatre of Calhoun, Illinois if he would like a ride to get some help. Vanmatre reportedly agreed to go with Sergeant Ballard and before transporting the stranded motorist in his vehicle Sergeant Ballard patted Mr. Vanmatre down for weapons, which resulted in seizure of a Hypodermic needle.

Vanmatre was transported to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Possession of Paraphernalia and Possession of a Hypodermic Needle. He remains in custody without bond.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond
a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
