Identity released of elderly woman killed in 4-vehicle wreck in Gibson Co., Ind.

The Gibson County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the individual killed in a four vehicle wreck Saturday night.

According to the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office, 82 year old Marjorie Straw of Princeton, Indiana was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that occurred Saturday night around 6:15 on US 41 near Richland Creek Drive.
The sheriff’s office reports when emergency service personnel arrived they discovered that a Ford Escape driven by the elderly woman had been traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of US 41 and had crashed into a Chevy Malibu. Authorities indicate the female driver of the car was transported to Deaconess Hospital for multiple bone fractures and is listed in critical condition.

Authorities say another car hit the Malibu in an attempt to avoid the accident, and the driver of the car was treated and released at Gibson General Hospital at the request of law enforcement.

A fourth vehicle also was involved in the accident and hit the Malibu, and a male driver and female passenger were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office indicates alcohol was not a factor in the fatal wreck, and the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities also say they are not releasing the names of the other drivers involved in the wreck.
